§ 6-64. Care of animals being transported.

  • (a)

    No owner, railroad or other common carrier, when transporting any animal, shall allow that animal to be confined in any type of conveyance for more than twenty-four (24) consecutive hours, without being exercised, properly rested, fed and watered as necessary for that particular type and species of animal; provided, however, that a reasonable extension of this time shall be permitted when an accident, storm or other act of God causes a delay. Adequate space in the primary enclosure within any type of conveyance shall be provided each animal, depending upon the particular type and species of animal.

    (b)

    No person shall carry or cause to be carried, in or upon any vehicle, vessel or other conveyance, any animal in a cruel, brutal or inhumane manner, so as to produce torture or unnecessary suffering.

    (c)

    Violation of any provision of this section shall constitute a Class 1 misdemeanor.
