§ 2-20. Duties of officers of council.

  • (a)

    The mayor shall preside over the meetings of the council and shall have the same right to vote and speak therein as other members. The mayor shall be recognized as the head of the city government for all ceremonial purposes, the purposes of military law and the service of civil process.

    (b)

    The vice-mayor shall, in the absence or disability of the mayor, perform the duties of mayor. In the absence or disability of both the mayor and vice-mayor, the council shall, by majority vote of those present, choose one (1) of their number to perform the duties of mayor.

    (c)

    The mayor shall call meetings to order at the hour for holding such meetings and, if a quorum be present, shall cause the journal of the proceeding meeting to be read and call for corrections at the conclusion thereof, after which same shall be approved, and, when transcribed in the book provided for that purpose, the mayor shall sign same.
